The single highest-converting LinkedIn outreach source isn't search. It's people commenting on posts in your niche. They're awake, they're on LinkedIn, they engaged with your topic in the last 24 to 48 hours, and they self-selected by saying something publicly.
This tutorial shows you how to extract every commenter from any LinkedIn post in under a minute, without using Sales Navigator. We'll use the Lead4Linked Chrome extension because it's the most direct path, but the same principles apply to other tools that support post commenter scraping.
Why post commenters convert better than search results
Three reasons:
- Recency. Comments are timestamped within the last 24 hours typically. Your DM lands while the topic is still fresh in their head.
- Self-selection. They cared enough to type a comment. That's a much stronger intent signal than appearing in a search result for a job title.
- Personalization fuel. Their comment gives you a perfect personalization line. "Saw your comment on [Author]'s post about X" beats "Hi, I noticed you work in sales."
Industry benchmark: cold connection requests from LinkedIn search convert to replies at 5-12%. Personalized requests referencing a recent comment convert at 25-40%. The data difference is not subtle.
Step 1: Install the Chrome extension
Sign up for Lead4Linked at leadsforlinked.com with your work email. No credit card required. You'll be prompted to install the Chrome extension immediately after. The extension is free forever and adds a small Lead4Linked button to LinkedIn pages.
If you already have a Chrome extension manager set up, the install takes about 10 seconds.
Step 2: Find a high-engagement post in your niche
Your starting list should be 5-10 LinkedIn posts that match these criteria:
- Author is a competitor or adjacent thought leader. Their commenters are likely your ICP.
- Post is less than 7 days old. Recency matters. Posts older than a week have stale engagement.
- 50+ comments. Below 50 commenters, the volume isn't worth the time.
- Comments contain real engagement. Skim the first few to make sure they're not just "Great post 馃憦" replies.
Quick way to find these: search LinkedIn for the exact name of a competitor's product. Their founder's posts will dominate results. Pick the most-commented ones.
Step 3: Extract every commenter
Open the LinkedIn post. Click the Lead4Linked button in your browser toolbar. Select "Extract post commenters" from the menu. The extension will scroll through every comment, deduplicate by profile URL, and pull each commenter's structured data.
For a post with 200 comments, this takes about 30 seconds. For 1000+ comments, expect 1-2 minutes.
The extracted data lands in your Lead4Linked dashboard as a temporary list. You can preview the first 20 leads before exporting, to verify the data quality.
Step 4: Filter by job title and company size
Most commenter extractions return mixed audiences: some prospects, some peers, some outliers. Apply filters before exporting:
- Job title contains: "Sales", "Founder", "Head of Growth", whatever maps to your ICP.
- Company size: exclude companies smaller than 10 or larger than 500 employees if your ICP is mid-market.
- Location: filter to your target geographies.
- Seniority: exclude interns, students, advisors.
A 200-commenter list typically narrows to 30-60 high-quality matches after filtering. That's your real outreach list for the week.
Step 5: Export to CSV (or push to your CRM)
Click Export. Choose CSV (universal) or push directly to HubSpot, Pipedrive, Salesforce, Notion, or Airtable via the native integrations. Each lead exports with full profile data, plus a custom column showing which post they commented on (the personalization fuel for your message).
If you're on the Outreach plan or higher, you can also send the list directly into a Lead4Linked LinkedIn campaign without ever exporting CSV. This is the fastest path from finding a post to sending personalized outreach.

Start free, no cardBonus: A first-message template that got 32% reply rate
This is the connection request template we use ourselves on commenters of competitor posts. It's deliberately short. LinkedIn caps connection requests at 300 characters and shorter requests have higher acceptance rates.
Template:
Hi {firstName}, saw your comment on {AuthorName}'s post about {topic}. Curious how you're approaching {pain} at {company}. We just shipped a tool that solves the no-Sales-Nav part. Open to connecting?
Replace the curly braces with real values. The personalization line ("saw your comment on X's post about Y") is what drives the high acceptance rate. The pitch is one sentence so the request doesn't read as spammy. The CTA ("Open to connecting?") is soft.
For 100 connection requests sent with this template against well-filtered post commenters, you can expect:
- ~32-40% acceptance rate
- ~12-18% reply rate to the follow-up DM (sent 1 day after acceptance)
- ~5-8% book-a-call or trial signup conversion
Common mistakes to avoid
- Sending without filtering. If you message every commenter without filtering for ICP, you waste invitation budget on the wrong people. LinkedIn caps you at ~100 invitations per week. Use them on filtered lists only.
- Generic templates. If your message doesn't reference the specific post or topic, you might as well be cold-searching. The whole advantage of commenter extraction is the warmth signal.
- Spamming the same post repeatedly. Don't extract the same post weekly. People who already received your DM will see another and flag you.
- Skipping the post monitor. Set up a Lead4Linked post monitor on a top-engaging competitor account. New commenters get added to your list automatically every week. Compounding leverage.
- Ignoring the second sequence. A single message gets ~12% reply. A 3-message sequence with 4-day gaps gets ~28-35% reply. Always sequence.
Once you've validated this method on one or two posts, scale by setting up post monitors on the 5-10 highest-engagement profiles in your niche. New leads land in your dashboard daily without any manual work.
